Parralel Thinking

Radiohead are soothing my ears again...I like the new vocal pitch.
Radiohead- Reckoner

My friend Diarmaid played us this fluffy tune off his phone last time I was home. I think it's about being impotent...I think that's what he said.
Final Fantasy- The Lamb Sells Condos

For some strange reason I follow what the media hype about The Young Knives and got the album. It ain't that bad. They haven't gone overtly pop and kept to what they like. This choon being my fave from the album.
The Young Knives- Rollerskater

Finally, my Electric Picnic tune. Euphoric house from The Field. Let it take you, don't push it.
The Field- Everyday

Bang E.R.

Just a quick post on two bangers I got recently. First up "Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso" feat. Salem el fakir. They got a newish tune out called "It's True". Pure niceness, feel good, gesture of happinness and love type thing. Axwell seems to one of my favourite wee fly boys these days....He's getting the right idea's.

Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso feat. Salem el fakir- It's True

Also, I caught my ear on to a decent version of Surkin's "Radio Fireworks" on someone myspace. Was bouncing in and out of my speakers, I sat there with just the profile open listening to it....That rarely happens when people request to be my friends. This track i'm puttiong up ain't exactly the same but it was the closest I could get...Enjoy.

From The Rack: #1

To spice things up abit and also to give me a chance to realise "What actually do I have in my cd collection", I'm delving into the wonders of the rack which contains years of musical purchasing. This feature I warn could be really bad or possibly really good depending on the cd. It'll be educational none the less.

The first cd I have plucked from the rack is "On The Edge Of Forever" by a band called Ikon from Melbourne, Australia.

Lastfm says;
"The band was founded in 1991 from the ashes of another gothic rock band, Death in the Dark. by vocalist/guitarist and Church of Satan member Chris McCarter, bassist Dino Molinaro and (former) vocalist Michael Carrodus."

Jaysus, I got some sort of Satanist Goth band in my collection....I think it was a hit and hope buy down in universal one day. They've got sort of a Joy Division sound to them...For Goth Rock (which I know absolutely nothing about)....they're not too offensive to the ear. From reading the sleeve, I believe the album is based around the egyptian "Book Of The Dead", how nice. I shouldn't think they're gonna make a revival in my leisurely listening though.

Ikon- The Shallow Sea

Electric Picnic: Electrelane

The first real bit of post rock whimsical electro pop i've got into for a while...Electrelane who are gonna be playing the Picnic, are one to look out for if your looking for a nice sort of banging chilled experience....The band formed in Brighton in 1998 and is made up by four (good)indie chicks have released four albums, the most recent being released this year called "No Shouts No Calls". All four albums fuse together many styles creating envigorating tension building instrumentals while also popping out nice feel good melodic tracks. I can see me paying a definite visit to these girls, most likely early in the day....Nice summer feeling vibes.

Porn Groove

The title of this post is inspired by the uploader of The Mitchell Brothers album. Apparently the genre of their "A Brand New Fresh Attire" album comes under "Porn Groove". It makes you wonder.

Anyways, today i'm featuring some 'griming and rhyming'. First up 'The Mitchell Brothers' who you can see in the 'Harvey Nicks' video above. Mates of 'The Streets'' Mike Skinner, these lads I reckon surpass him in a smoother way showing up Mike's jagged lyrical vocals. Although he does feature in the 'Harvey Nicks' video he is upstaged by the Brothers and Sway who is another unique London based talent. Check these tracks out...

The Mitchell Brothers- Harvey Nicks

The Mitchell Brothers- Alone With The TV

Before getting back home I got Dizzee Rascal's new album off a mate titled "Maths+English". It's a vast improvement compared to his last LP "Showtime" which seemed to lack any cutting edge production, "Dream" being the exception. "Maths+English" will definitly compete with "Boy In The Corner" as my personal favourite of his releases. Magooo put up the eighth track on the album "Da Feelin" which is a banger. So to be more useful I'll supply you with another. It's called "Bubbles", I love it, it's about his Nike Air's...

M-emo

As if rednecks didn't have enough prejudices to worry about, they've found another one.

Idiot Pilot- Spark Plug

In Other News

Scratch Perverts released a mix album called Watch This Ride which I attained recently. Some quality tunes in an around the rap/electro/grunge categories. This one track would be my favourite from the session, in which Tomcraft's 'Lonelieness' is used brilliantly as the backdrop to some immaculate rhymes by Akala and Skinnyman.

Akala ft. Skinnyman- Shakespeare

It seems that i'm growing a collection of Global Underground releases. The most recent being the three disc album packed with quality smooth yet banging electro dance tunes. Advertisements for the album featured this next song, of which was all was needed to make their point of what masters of creating a VA album they are.

Gabriel & Dresden Feat. Jan Burton- New Path (Jim Rivers Remix) from GU Mixed

To finish a personal classic from my boys from Orbital. Since the lads broke up the partnership, Paul and Phil Hartnol have kept themselves busy with their own projects. Phil has launched his new group Longrange creating new softer tunes for the chilled massive. Paul has stayed closed to home and is still creating a beating industrial sound and is also set to appear at Electric Picnic under the name 'Paul Hartnol and the Ideal Condition'.

Orbital- Halycon (Live In New York)

Headsung in the Summer Sun

Back home for the summer so I got some reliable solid internet use to get this blog back on track again. The video above is from the amazing prankvote.com which you'll find pretty tempting to recreate yourself. Who knew pain could be so much fun.

While sifting through video documentation of other peoples torture, pain and humilation. I also came across this gem of a prank gone wrong...

Was meant to see Explosions tomorrow, but because of the bad storms on the east coast of America they canny make it. Feck. Gonna be rescheduled, but I dunno when for. To top it off my laptop has a virus and I can't even get onto windows.

Ace Of Base!

Could be worse.

Severance

Bought this for a tenner in HMV (should really stop advertising HMV). A bit more than I would usually spend on a majority of DVD's I pick up, however, in this case it was well worth it. Not like Talladega Nights which really does make it difficult to find something funny in it. Danny Dyer is fucking A. Check it out, I won't give away any quality incidents. Bye.

Dogging

Picked up some digitally remastered work from Plaid's alter ego yesterday. "The Black Dog" made up of the Plaid lads Ken Downie along with Ed Handley and Andy Turner, resorted to having to start their own label as their releases weren't getting backed. Resulting in "Black Dog Productions". Their first album Bytes was releasd on Warp Records. The progression of Plaid however seen Ed and Andy brake away to work full time on their creation. Ken Downie was left to take it easy with his own creation for a while, until he then joined up with Richard and Martin Dust, owners of the label "Dust Science Recordings" and released several more ep's and single's.

It was brought to my attention that some of the links were dead. Just after fixing them all, so they should all be fine now.

Disco-ver

After my 21st, where we drank alot at mine and I handed some internet music and general DJing duties over to Chareth Cutestory. I found all the gems in which Chareth downloaded for me. Some of my favourites come from the "MiamiHorror" crew coming all the way from Melbourne with their unique disco reworkings of current and past classic tracks. I would put my neck out on the line and say they were electronic aswell in their producing, however they seem to quote that as being dead on their myspace page. Oh well. They have still, undeniably created some of the best reworkings I've heard in a while so I give them props for a great night in which they ampoungst others soundtracked.

Miami Horror- Don't Be On With Her

Miami Horror- Music Sounds Better

One of the other memorable tracks of the night would have to be the remix of Smells like Teen Spirit.

Patrick Alavi- Smells Like Teen Spirit (Remix)

Bra-sex-tronic

Browsing the music blogs to find some quality, quality!, techno electro is a class. Came across this fella yesterday, Gui Baratto, a Sau Paulo born composer and producer who only started to hone in on his musical talents in 2005. He's definitly a name to look out for in the future after the release of his recent album "Chromophobia".

Ocean's Twelve

Half watched this film at the weekend. Got fixated with trying to find the music from the lazer beam sequence, after two hours or so I eventually found it. Pretty sure Daithi played it at Dano's.

The original of the song is by french rap outfit "La Caution" and has been brought to attention with the help of Vincent Cassel and the artistic group of whom which he is involved in.

Pan's Labyrinth??!!!

Ok, just finished watching 'Pan's Labyrinth'. Got into watching it thinkin it was a nice light hearted film for kids like 'Narnia' or something. Not people getting a Chelsea smile, legs cut off, tortured, shot in the face, not to mentioning the freaky bugger above.WTF. Other than my surprise to what I thought I was gonna be watching, and what it actually was, it's a brilliant movie. Bloody wierd but still amazing.

All Tomorrow's Parties

Was alerted to this festival by me boy Messy a couple of weeks ago. Looks shit hot with the likes of Modest Mouse, Mogwai, Built To Spill, Explosions In The Sky and The Notwist to name just a few. The festival fully involves the fans who vote for acts in which they want, which then produces a top 100 list. The ATP organisers show the progress and availibility of the acts in which they have tried to book and who are unavailable. Which is nice. Gutted though on the otherhand, cuz it's during a packed month of May, thus I won't be finished college. Grrrrr!
To be informative, the festival takes place at Butlins in Sommerset from May 18th to 20th. Here's the Line Up.

Here's some tracks;

Built To Spill- Randy Described Eternity
Mogwai- Take Me Somewhere Nice
Explosions In The Sky- Catastrophe and the Cure
The Notwist- At One With The Freaks
Modest Mouse- Dramamine

A Slow Day

My day of being hungover is nearly at an end. Beer and toplessness, always a striking combination. Above is the music from the T Mobile add which drove me nuts for ages trying to find out who it was by. The answer, Arthur Russell-This Is How We Walk On The Moon.

Some memorable tunes from the previous year of college laziness;

About-Stack Of Marshells

Mew-Zookeeper's Boy

Broken Social Scene-Stars And Sons

Modest Mouse-Paper Thin Walls

Explosions In The Sky in the UK

After buying tickets to see Explosions in February for the Manchester Academy in April, I was pleasently surprised to find they how a new album out while I wondered into HMV. "All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone" provides a little softer yet more elegently structured side to Explosions In The Sky's previous works. Like most Explosions' albums, they provide a journey of immense sound and intensity, a soundtrack to your life.

A Beirut Welcome

Beirut are a band that have started to come into their own recently with their most recent album "The Gulag Orkestar". Zach Condon the main orchestrater of this outfit provides a an eastern european gypsy sound, which although wierd at first, becomes ever progressively heart warming. This version below of "Scenic World" is a reworeked version from his album which is available from his "Lon Gisland" ep.
